Building Inclusive Literacy Through Picture Books

Through creative writing, thoughtful book reviews, storytelling, and collaborative consulting, I help connect authors, illustrators, publishers, educators, bookstores, and the community at large in a shared mission: to build more inclusive, expansive, and emotionally resonant bookshelves for kids from toddlers to ten. Children’s literature is a nurturing space for connection and change. I’m committed to amplifying the voices of authors and illustrators from diverse cultural backgrounds, ensuring that children see a conscious, vibrant, and multifaceted world reflected in the stories they read.

Whether you’re looking for your next bedtime story, curating a classroom library, hosting storytelling circles, or interested in expanding your book audience—I’m here to connect & celebrate picture books and their transformative power.

Mama Reads is inspired by the art of learning & expanding our imagination through picture books.

The Reading Journal: where stories and life weave together

  • "Picture books, in the present era, enjoy a status as a culture form to be enjoyed by people of all ages. It is a precious and versatile art that has already left the confines of paper behind, shattering the boundaries of its own genre and fusing with various other forms of art and imagery."

CJ Picture Book Festival in South Korea Manifesto

  • "To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled is a spark."

    Victor Hugo

  • "I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn’t be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage."

About Me

I’m a community connector, book reviewer, children’s literature consultant and storyteller. As a lifelong book lover with a background in publishing, project management, and community-based research across Brazil, Canada, and Mexico, my goal is create more connection between the literary landscapes of various cultures, bringing new voices across borders and into new languages.

My deepest passion lies in showcasing books that reflect an inclusive voice, historical significance, ecological resonance, as well as a diversity of identities and perspectives towards an expansive notion of what it means to be human

Mama Reads is a platform and consultancy designed to connect authors, illustrators, publishers, educators, and communities at large, in the shared mission of creating conscious, expansive, and inclusive literacy experiences for children—especially those aged 0–10. Through book reviews, creative writing, live events, storytelling sessions, and consulting services, I aim to help shape more representative and emotionally resonant literary landscape for the next generation.

Picture books are an invitation to travel, both through time and space; a life giving language of what it means to be human; a learning experience; and a way for children to feel connected to one another and the natural world. I believe storytelling is both art and activism. And that a single picture book can change the way a child sees the world—and their sense of belonging in it.
